Do we know anything about the mortality rates of kids with autism?

  • What is quality of life?
    • person growth
    • independence
    • health ahppiness
    • access to services which promote quality of life
  • 3 perspectives:
    • social - social welfare, formal versus informal, housing, leisure, etc...
    • psychological --> personal --> maintains productivity, independence, acceptance
      • perceptions of quality - satisfaction, well-being, competence
    • social policy - service delivery, fiscal resources
  • one must consider the child's input
  • abuse the freedoms?
  • financial planning an issue
  • support options decrease as one gets older
  • who are the caregivers?
  • beliefs and values are at the core as well
  • increasing backlash against "public residential facilities"
    • continuum of options
    • transfer, shuffle, and relocation at issue
      • the wishes of the individual are often not considered
