- educate yourselves
- directly collect data - not just for professionals
- work with qualified clinicians
- rely on science
- beleive in your child's ability to learn
- join organizations such as ASAT
- no stone intervention or no second wasted?
- don't waste your child's time
- first, do no harm
- why measure? b/c they can learn!
- We owe our kids!
- Who is the expert?
- both parents and professionas
- we're working with families, not children
- parents did not choose this life - remember the virtue of compassion
- professionals WANT to work with you child! - remember the virtue of gratitude
- school systems can be difficult to navigate
- schools are still scrambline
- stay focused on the child's best interest
- forge relationships with qualified professionals
- don't call parent "Mom"
- volunteer work can help
- community inclusion - he is an ambassador
- parental involvement is key - set the bar high
- we can reinforce and undermine
- time = power
- parents spend the most time with kids
